My children’s case worker in particular has no business working in a position intended to provide people help. She closed my case stating I did not provide information, although I did, so my autistic children are without health insurance. Hopefully my various complaints actually get this situation fixed.

I recently called Human Services of Boulder County for help and information, and my experience was incredibly disappointing. A woman answered the phone with a lot of background noise. She was rude, constantly interrupted me, and made it difficult to explain my situation. There was no personal verification process for safety; she just blurted out my name without me needing to provide it, which felt like a privacy breach. It seemed she looked up my phone number, which is concerning.

This was the strangest experience I've ever had with a Boulder County service. The woman eventually provided the information I needed, but it felt like pulling teeth. Human Services of Boulder County, you need to do better. Implement better privacy/security measures and ensure your staff treats callers with respect and tact.

Well, here I am on hold with BCHHS once again, 2nd try calling 5 days later. Sigh. What's just kind of a joke is the automated: "A technician will be with you shortly," and "You can also text us ... for faster service." I texted TWICE last week, even including my case number, with no reply yet.

I know they're backlogged, maybe even understaffed. How do I know they're backlogged? I reapplied for health benefits, got my paperwork in early, but then had benefits ended because they were "backlogged" and didn't get to the paperwork before the end date. I called to discuss, the technician (very nice, btw) said they were backlogged. Here's the bizarre twist: When I requested an extension, she indicated that if I hadn't gotten it in on time, she could grant me an extension, but I did get it in EARLY, and she couldn't grant an extension in that situation. I was incredulous! No thinking outside of the box here. So, I appealed my case for a hearing. Within just days of doing that, voila, benefits renewed, and I received a call from someone higher up in the chain to confirm. My son (a minor) and I went about a month without benefits due to no fault of my own.

I will say that in the past, when my son's father was in palliative care and our child support went from $1200 to $200 with 2 weeks' notice from his attorney (with no explanation as to why, of course), I went to Housing and Human Services in person, and they expedited services, which I very much appreciated. During the pandemic, they even had chat service. Wish they still did. This phone hold stuff is ridiculous.

Still on hold after typing all the above and going on 30 minutes now ... at least I know how to multitask well.

They do work very hard and the business I`ve conducted with BCHHS has gone very smoothly. If there ever was an issue they worked with me to solve it quickly and efficiently. Plus, they`re just nice folks you can enjoy a nice chat with. I`ve seen people throwing a fit in there and the staff was just as chill and professional as they could be.

It took forever for them to figure out my case (they closed it and I had to reopen it due to an error on their part)

and then, after waiting I got an insulting rate for my snap benefits.
It isn't even enough for a meal a month

It really feels like boulder County doesn't actually care about its residents

This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with a human services office. They don’t care about you or your family. They only care about themselves. They cut my benefits and even though they’ve had all proper documentation in their system for 2 MONTHS they have yet to fix my benefits. They expect my family of 4 to make it through a month with 115 dollars. That’s not enough for a family of 2 to make it though a month. I’m disgusted with the lack of human empathy.
